An Homage to my Bass

“An Homage to my Bass”, 11 inches x 214 inches, oil on board. I owned an upright bass for awhile, and after it sat for several years or so, I decided to sell it. But before I did, I created this painting of the headstock. The reflection of light off the tuning machines and how they glow in the shadow cast on the wall really resonates with me, and the contrast of cool light on the fingerboard and strings against the warm tones in the varnish has an enchanting quality to it. The delicate brushwork on the highlights in contrast to the broad strokes has a wonderful interplay that brings pleasure and intrigue to the viewer.
